Students must submit Plans of Work online via Student Self Service in MYPACK Portal. This replaces the previous paper process where students collected committee members' signatures. When a student submits their POW, each graduate faculty member on the requested advisory committee will receive an email invitation to serve and to approve the POW. Instructions for students can be found at Graduate Student SIS training manual.

The email to the faculty member will have the subject line “Graduate Advisory Committee Invitation for [student name]”. It will include a link directly to the student’s POW and Committee record. The email will be sent from "NCSU Graduate School" (gradschool@gw.fis.ncsu.edu). A concise graduate faculty member’s guide outlining this process as well a number of other very useful SIS features is available online in the Graduate Faculty SIS training manual.

Once all committee members have accepted membership and approved the plan, it routes through work-flow to the graduate program director.

Pam's notes on how this really works:

Students need to enter the course work and committee members, then click submit. This is what triggers the email invitation to the committee members. [Note: as of now, Master's students can't submit with only two committee members, the system kicks it out, so email Pam when you're ready to submi.]

Faculty Members need to go to the worklist to both accept and approve the POW (two check boxes). Your worklist can be found under the Faculty Center on MyPack Portal.

Once all faculty members have accepted the invitation to be on the committee and approve the POW, it shows up on the DGP worklist for submission to the grad school.
