For Consulting Clients
|
In this course Statistics graduate students provide statistical consulting to clients from around the university. The aims of the course are to give Statistics students experience in applying statistics to real problems and communicating with non-statisticians, and to provide service to the university community. At the start of the semester each ST641/841 student will be assigned to a project that has been contributed by faculty or students from around the campus who have requested statistical consulting services. A faculty advisor is also assigned to each project. Information for Clients We offer statistical consulting service to graduate students, faculty, and staff from the university community. We request that clients have taken at least one semester of statistics. To request statistical consulting through this course, please submit an online ConsultingServices Request Form. Shortly after the semester begins a student consultant will contact you to set up an appointment. Please note that faculty and students in CALS can receive more extensive consulting by contacting their faculty liaison. ST641/841 projects will be assigned to student consultants on a first-come, first-served basis. The projects may last anywhere from one or two consulting
sessions up to the end of the semester, whatever is needed. Since this
course carries only one unit of credit, some fairly strict rules of use
of the student consultants' The ST641/841 service is offered
only when the semester is in session; however for scheduling purposes I
welcome requests sent in prior to the start of the semester. If your
request appears to require help with data analysis or statistical
programming that would take more than three hours per week, we cannot
provide this service through ST641/841, but we will be very happy to
discuss other options with you. Role and Responsibilities of
ST641/841 Students The student consultant for a
project is responsible for setting up the meeting times and notifying
the client and the faculty advisor of meeting times, for directing the
consulting sessions, and for writing reports to the client. Students
enrolled in the course should expect to work up to 3 hours per week on
their consulting projects.
