ST772 - Biomathematics II


  • Prerequisites: Undergraduate probability
  • Term & Frequency: Every Spring
  • Student Audience: Graduate students in biology, mathematics, statistics and related fields
  • Credit: 3 credits
  • Recent Texts: Ross, Introduction to Probability Models
  • Recent Instructors: Kevin Gross
  • Background and Goals: The goal of this course is to introduce stochastic models and understand how they may be used to facilitate contemporary biological research
  • Content: Discrete- and continuous-time Markov chains. Branching processes. Poisson and counting processes. Simple diffusions
  • Alternatives: MA746 provides a more technical treatment, but without the biological context.
  • Subsequent Courses: ST773 continues the study of diffusions
